Two Canadian astronomers have spotted strange flashes of color in light emanating from 234 stars of the 2.5 million stars they studied and it was exactly what they had been looking for.
This new study looked for specific modulations known as spectral modulation in 2.5 million stars. This modulation is rapid and minute changes in color. Even more exciting is that the changes in color followed a repeating pattern.
The study “Discovery of peculiar periodic spectral modulations in a small fraction of solar type stars” which was authored by E.F. Borra and E. Trottier who are two astronomers at Laval University in Canada made us of data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. This data has signals in exactly the shape of an ETI signal that was predicted in a previous study.
While skepticism is still high amongst many I personally believe this is the type of signal and advanced extraterrestrial civilization would use not some primitive and slow radio signal that we are currently searching for with SETI. Pulses of light separated at constant intervals may just be the smoking gun to finally scientifically prove alien life does in fact exist.
