ActiveFax Server Description |
|
| |
ActiveFax is used to integrate fax and email functionality in various different environments without extensive modifications. Usually mainly used on Microsoft Windows systems, the fax service can also be used to send fax documents and emails from any other operating system, for example UNIX or Linux.
ActiveFax supports all important network protocols (i.e. LPD/LPR) for connections between operating systems and applications. Thus sending fax messages becomes as easy as printing documents. Moreover it is possible to send fax documents to the fax server through a serial interface (RS-232) or the file system (NFS, Samba, etc.). ActiveFax handles printer commands of HP-LaserJet (PCL), Epson-LQ and optionally Postscript and PDF (requires Ghostscript to be installed on the server). This guarantees that a fax message or email is exactly of the same shape as a printout on a physical printer. So-called data fields can be used to specify the parameters for a fax document (i.e. recipient, subject, priority, etc.) already within an application for fully automated fax transmissions. |
