ControlSheet Description |
|
| |
ControlSheet is a very simple desktop utility offering quick control over screen saver and display mode settings. It may be helpful, if you have to change these settings very often.
For example, automatically starting screen saver may be very objectionable in particular cases (e.g. watching video or burning CD-R). Disabling screen saver forever doesn't seem to be a good idea. On the other hand, open control panel, deselect and reselect your favorite screen saver each time may be annoying. As for ControlSheet, it always sits in the system tray and quickly accessible. Using it, you can disable/reenable screen saver in a pair of clicks.
Similarly, ControlSheet may be helpful, if you have to often switch display resolutions. For example, usually I work in a high resolution mode (1280x1024), but some applications looks too small in such case. So, each time I need such application, I have to switch low resolution mode like 800x600. Again, ControlSheet offers switching between display modes in minimum mouse moves.
Another annoying problem is that after turning to the lower screen resolution and then reverting back desktop icons and open windows appear to be crowd to the upper left screen corner. ControlSheet automatically saves icons and windows positions and restores them after each mode switch.
So, ControlSheet is a very simple utility, which can make your work more comfortable.
Features Fast display mode switching. The standard Windows control panel applet 'Display Properties' is a universal and convenient tool in general. But if you have to change display settings very often (for example if you are a web developer, who tests how his pages looks in different screen resolutions), you may find that to open each time Display Properties dialog may be a bit tiresome. ControlSheet utility is intended to make such tasks as quick as possible. Left click on its tray icon opens a small control panel. It consists of two sheets: 'screen saver' (see below) and 'display mode'. On the latter, you select desired screen resolution, color depth, possibly refresh rate, and click the 'set' button. The ControlSheet panel automatically hides as soon as you switch to any other application (like system volume control does).
Preserve windows and desktop icons positions. A very annoying problem is that after switching to a lower screen resolution and then reverting back, desktop icons and opened windows appear to be heaped to the top left corner of the screen. ControlSheet prevents this. It simply keeps windows and icons positions for each screen resolution and automatically restores them after each mode switch.
Temporary disable screen saver. Sometimes (for example watching video, burning CD-R) automatically starting screensaver may be very objectionable. ControlSheet offers an easy way to temporary disable and then reenable screensaver as well as auto power management options: turn off monitor and system standby. On the 'screen saver' sheet you'll find the corresponding check boxes. The special check box 'disable all', allows to enable/disable all of them by a single click.
Quickly change screen saver. Instead of disabling screensaver you can increase its timeout. The sidebar at the bottom of the sheet allows to change it in a wide range from 30 seconds to 3 hours. You can also quickly select another screen saver, start screen saver immediately. |
