California teaching credential candidates are required by law to verify their subject matter knowledge and competencies. Two ways have been established by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) of fulfilling this requirement. One way is to complete a program at an educational institution of subject matter preparation approved by the CCTC (also called a CSET waiver program).

This CSET test is for teachers who want to earn their Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. The CSET Multiple Subject Teaching Credential enables the holder to teach all subjects in grades K–6.
