Anglers and hunters have observed for more than a century that the position of the Moon influences wildlife activity. Marine biologists found evidence in 1997 that this is a scientific fact.
The two major peaks occur when the moon is directly over your area or underfoot: above the opposite side of Earth. These moon positions are directly related to ocean tides, of course, but according to scientists, they also cause changes in the atmosphere. FishByte will show both major peaks for fishing, but hunters will see only the better one of the two calculated with the sun position, the sunset/sunrise times, game behaviour, and the hunters free time in mind. The major peaks are represented by red bars on FishBytes main screen.
The minor peaks occur exactly between the two major peaks. Our own experience and information from our users show that the minor peaks are really important for fishing: depending on the location, weather, the season and the local geography, minor peaks can be almost as good as the major ones. In fact, if the major peaks occur at awkward times, follow the minor peaks to get lots of fishing action!
For hunters, however, minor peaks will not count as outstanding times.
The distance of the Moon from the Earth is also significant. A full moon or new moon means more active game and fish.
Therefore, FishByte evaluates the whole day according to the moon phases, and labels the days excellent, good, or average fishing days.
The height of the peaks will also show how strongly the peaks will influence wildlife. Please note that the peak heights are adjusted to your personal settings. Peak heights reflect your hunting/fishing chances. If you want to view game/fish activity regardless of your free time, select Any Hour on the main screen of the program. |
