Spring Description |
|
| |
Spring is a free and open-source RTS with multiple mods (unit packs) and dozens of maps. It connects to a (free) internet game & chat server with a simple window. Available 4 windows, with a Linux version under development. Although its just version 0.67, its stable and people have been playing huge games with it.
Spring is a project aiming to create a new RTS. Until it gets there we are using content such as units from Total Annihilation to get something to play with. You officially need to own a copy of the game.
Spring reads the TA unit format after some conversion, so 3rd party units should work just as well as the original ones. Maps from TA are not supported though. They are not (that) suited for 3D view, as they are not drawn from above but at an angle. This means that the far side of hills for example lose a lot of detail.
Here is an (incomplete) list of some of the currently implemented stuff in Spring, and also some of the ones that we have planned.
Current features:
High resolution maps, viewable from all angles and ranges Dynamic map with craters from weapon and unit explosions Work with unit files from Total annihilation Realistic 3D trajectories for weapons Fully 3D air combat Several camera modes to suit different tastes Mod switcher Lobby Client Currently in development:
New GUI Spring Linux Port Platform-Independent Lobby Client A skirmish AI to play off-line New scripting engine Several Spring compatible Mods Planned features:
New improved unit model and script formats |
