Braving the searing heat of Tatooine and the freezing winds of Hoth, the lucasarts.com staff set out for the Star Wars : Force Commander product development offices to check out the game. Heres what they found:
Real-Time Strategy Meets Star Wars With its breathtaking 3D environments, Star Wars : Force Commander draws players into a real-time strategy wrapped in a story line that intersects with some of the greatest moments in the Star Wars epic. The game begins just prior to the Empires search for the droids in Star Wars : A New Hope and ends after Return of the Jedi. Along the way, players will experience first-hand the decisive Battle of Hoth from The Empire Strikes Back, plus several new locations and conflicts created exclusively for the game. The intensely immersive, real-time nature of the game, coupled with a classic Star Wars story, offers fans and gamers the chance to truly live the saga. Unique to Star Wars : Force Commander is the opportunity to be a commanding officer of the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire.
Star Wars : Force Commander Basics If you happen to be both a Star Wars and a real-time strategy fan, Star Wars : Force Commander is a dream come true. Players can take command of over 40 different types of military vehicles and units—including AT-ATs, AT-STs, Rebel tanks and snowspeeders, and many incredible new combat vehicles never before seen in the Star Wars universe. Star Wars : Force Commander allows players to engage in intense ground battles through 24 challenging single-player missions and 27 multiplayer missions via the Internet or a Local Area Network (LAN). Star Wars : Force Commanders 10-plus 3D environments include the heavily forested terrain of Yavin, the desert wastelands of Tatooine and the grassy plains of Abridon. Star Wars: Force Commander also introduces new characters, woven into an epic tale of two brothers—Brenn and Dellis Tantor—who are troopers in the Imperial ground forces. As the story unfolds, we witness the brothers struggle to remain loyal to the Galactic Empire amid Imperial atrocities against the Rebellion. Before the game is played out, Brenn and Dellis will experience missions that will test their loyalty—and the players own strategic mettle.
Innovative Command Point System In several respects, Star Wars : Force Commander isnt your typical real-time strategy game. One big difference is the conscious omission of a rigorous resource-management model, such as harvesting or mining. The team de-emphasized this RTS standard in order to focus on the strategies involved in winning in combat. The result is that Star Wars : Force Commander lets players do what they do best: crush the enemy on the battlefield. Force Commander does give players the means to build bigger and better forces. For this, the team created the innovative Command Point system. Command Points act as the financing in the game and are used to buy more and more fighting units. Points are earned by gaining favor with the leaders of the Empire or the Rebellion, meeting mission objectives, establishing bases, occupying enemy strongholds and destroying enemy units. Players can also lose points by having too many units on the battlefield. The real challenge is not to waste Command Points
